Public Notice: PATENT TONG SEASON

The Virginia Marine Resource Commission invites public comment on proposed amendments to Regulation 4VAC 20-560-10 ET SEQ., "Pertaining to Shellfish Management Areas".

The purposes of these amendments are to more equitably disperse effort throughout the existing Shellfish Management Areas and to increase economic return during the winter months.

In accordance with §;28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the adoption of the proposed amendments will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Ave, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed to: Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, Floor 3, Newport News, VA 23607. A copy of the proposed regulation may be reviewed at the Commission, Monday through Friday, between 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in obtaining a copy of the proposed regulation may call the Commission at (757) 247-2248.

THE AMENDMENTS:

4 VAC 20-560-40. PATENT TONG SEASON.


1) Revise the season for the harvest of clams by patent tong in the York River Shellfish Management Area from January 1 through March 31 to August 15 through November 30.

2) Revise the season for the harvest of clams by patent tong in the Poquoson River Shellfish Management Area from January 1 through March 31 to March 15 through May 1.

4 VAC 20-560-50. TIME OF DAY AND HARVEST RESTRICTIONS.

1) Modify the harvesting time limit in the Newport News Shellfish Management Area from sunrise until 1:00 P.M. to sunrise until 2:00 P.M.
