Tiffany Birge is joining the Habitat Management Division as a new Environmental Engineer, transitioning from her current Virginia Sea Grant Commonwealth and Coastal Marine Policy Fellowship position.
She earned a Bachelor's in marine biology and a Master's in biology from Old Dominion University (ODU). During her Master's, she worked with international experts to develop extinction risk assessments for a large group of economically and ecologically important forage fishes using the IUCN Red List methodology and completed the first global review of the conservation status of the group. She also taught the Ichthyology lab as a teaching assistant for three years.
Tiffany has since worked as a field and research technician at the Virginia
Institute of Marine Science where she assisted with the annual winter blue
crab dredge survey, and continued as a research associate at ODU working on
extinction risk assessments of flatfishes.
She was born and raised
in Virginia Beach, and grew up on the water fishing with her Dad. She enjoys
an active lifestyle and does macrame and pyrography in her spare time.
