2006 Free Fishing Days Set

RICHMOND, VA. - Governor Timothy M. Kaine, Secretary of Natural Resources L. Preston
Bryant, Jr., Commissioner of Marine Resources William A. Pruitt and Interim Director W. Gerald
Massengill of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries have announced the dates for Free Fishing
Days in the Commonwealth this year.

June 2, 3, and 4 have been set aside and will not require fishing licenses in the salt and fresh
waters of the Commonwealth.

Routinely, a freshwater fishing license is required to fish the inland rivers and streams of Virginia
and a saltwater license is required to fish the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries. During free
fishing days no license is required.

Officers of the Virginia Marine Police of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and Game
Wardens of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be on duty to assist fishermen, but
licenses will not be checked on those three days.

Governor Kaine has issued a proclamation on Free Fishing.
