For Immediate Release
May 9, 2007

Free Saltwater Fishing Days Announced

Pursuant to Section 28.2-302.5(B), June 1, 2, and 3 (2007) have been designated as Free Fishing Days in Virginia marine waters by Commissioner Steven G. Bowman, of the Marine Resources Commission. For those three days no saltwater fishing license will be required to fish recreationally in Virginia's portion of the Chesapeake Bay, in the tributary rivers up to the point where freshwater licenses are required, and in the coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

This is a great opportunity for family and friends to discover the enjoyment of fishing and boating. Fishing is a wholesome recreational activity that provides fun for family members of all ages and produces memories that can last a lifetime. A day on the water develops a better appreciation for our natural environment, which helps us become better stewards of our natural resources.
