Chapter 4 VAC20-252-10 et seq., "Pertaining to the Taking of Striped Bass".

The Commission will consider amendments to modify the fall recreational striped bass fishery management measures.

The proposal is to establish a minimum size limit of 18 inches (total length) and a maximum size limit of 28 inches, with a 2-fish possession limit, whereby one fish of the two fish possession limit may be greater than 28 inches total length, during the fall recreational fishing season in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries (October 4 through December 31) and summer/fall season established by the Potomac River Fisheries Commission, for the Virginia tributaries of the Potomac River.

Currently, both the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and the Virginia tributaries of the Potomac River are managed during these seasons by an 18-inch minimum size limit (total length) and a maximum size limit of 28 inches total length, with a 2-fish possession limit, whereby the possession limit may consist of only one striped bass 34 inches or greater, in total length.

The purpose of these amendments is to allow the fishery to better attain the harvest quota, in accordance with the interstate fishery management plan for this species.
