This rectangular shaped artificial reef was constructed in 2001. It is 300 yards wide and 1600 yards long on a north / south axis. It is located 4 nautical miles SSE of the entrance to the Great Wicomico River.
This reef was constructed as a result of the effort of the Northern Neck Charter Boat Association. The concrete pipe at this site was donated by the Hanson Pipe Company, and the deployment was funded with Saltwater Fishing License revenue.
The center of this site is marked with a yellow VMRC buoy designated "AP".
In December of 2007, another 1,000 tons of pipe were placed on the Asphalt Pile Artificial Reef site. The pipe was donated by the Hanson Pipe Company, and the deployment was funded with Saltwater Fishing License revenue.
