Buckroe Fishing Pier

Background:

The recreational fishing pier officially opened in May of 2009. In 2011, the City of Hampton received $721,325 from the VSRFDF.  The City contributed about $2.3 million to the project. Because of weather and low usage, the RFAB approved a request from the City to close the pier, January through March.  Weather permitting, the pier is open 24/7 in all other months.  The pier extends 709 feet into the Chesapeake Bay and 16 feet wide, with a T-head of 70 feet by 29 feet.

Each year, the City plans to purchase a blanket pier license.  They do charge a fee to use the pier.   However, if you have your own valid Virginia saltwater fishing license, you are eligible for a discount.  You must show your license, when you enter to receive the discount.  If you do not have your own Virginia saltwater fishing license, you must register with the free Virginia Fisherman Identification Program (FIP) to fish on this pier.  If you do not have a valid Virginia saltwater fishing license click here to register now. This is a very popular site and provides nice catches of croaker, spot, flounder, striped bass, drum, eel, and seatrout.

Some amenities available at this location are: 57 parking spaces, 3 handicapped parking spaces, and 2 handicapped van spaces located next to the pier; handicapped accessible restroom facilities; shaded fishing areas; lower railing fishing areas, which are nice for wheelchair patrons and children; snacks and bait and tackle shop; rental fishing equipment; fish measuring and cleaning stations; lighting for night fishing; trash and fishing line recycling receptacles; and cutting boards spread out on various spots on the pier railing.  This facility is completely ADA compliant.
